Introducing a new user consent policy
Introducing a new user consent policy
Today were launching a new user consent policy. This policy requires publishers with site visitors from the European Union to ask their permission for using their data.
Why are we doing this?
European Union data protection authorities requested some changes to current practices for obtaining end user consents. It has always been Googles policy to comply with privacy laws, so weve agreed to make certain changes affecting our own products and partners using Google products.
What do you need to do?
If your websites are getting visitors from any of the countries in the European Union, you must comply with the EU user consent policy. We recommend you start working on a policy-compliant user consent mechanism today. Theres guidance from data protection authorities and IABs across Europe on what is required to comply with relevant laws; the IABs IAB Europe Guidance: Five Practical Steps to help companies comply with the E-Privacy Directive is a good place to start.
To learn how to implement a user consent mechanism, check out our help center FAQs and visit Cookie Choices, a website dedicated to complying with this new policy.

Policy Refresher content and copyright
Policy Refresher content and copyright
For the next segment of our policy refresher series, were talking about a topic content creators really care about -- content and copyright.
A major benefit of the Internet is that it puts incredible information and entertainment at our fingertips. Its important to remember, however, that if somebody else created it, you need their permission to show Google ads next to it. Weve created a video to explore examples of content and copyright:
Still have questions? Submit your questions in this post via Google Moderator (please note: for privacy reasons, we wont be able to respond to account-specific questions). Well be holding a Google Hangout on Air series covering this topic in more detail - check out the full schedule and dont forget to register.
