HP655 Notebook needs BIOS update after upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8 1 problem with Realtek driver

Problem:
After upgrading Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Realtek PCIe GBE Ethernet LAN will not work on a HP 655 Notebook, and it will be signed with yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.

Solution:

(Now only this solution works. Realtek driver updtate from HP or Realtek dont work.)

Remove or reset BIOS password from Windows

This method works with Acer TravelMate 2490 laptop with Windows 7, but by the included cmospwd.txt works other BIOS versions and PCs or laptops.

Download and extract to a folder this software:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/cmospwd-5.0.zip

Log on to Windows as Administrator priviledges, or run an command prompt with administrating priviledges (Click Start-->Run: type CMD hit Ctr+Shift+Enter)
cd to the extracted directory (e.g. cmospwd-5.0)
then in cmospwd-5.0 cd to windows directory

To work on cmos memory, ioperm need to be installed and running. ioperm gives direct port I/O access for specified ports to user-mode process.

when you are already in e.g. cmospwd-5.0windows directory: type “ioperm.exe –i” hit enter.
to start ioperm service: type “net start ioperm” hit enter.
type: “Cmospwd_win.exe /k” hit enter, we will see:

1 - Kill cmos
2 - Kill cmos (try to keep date and time)
0 - Abort
Choice :

Type 1 and hit Enter to clear cmos or 2 to keep date and time.

Reboot computer and former BIOS password gone.

Acer TravelMate 2490 vs Windows 8 1 error message ATTEMPTED SWITCH FROM DPC

After installing Windows 8.1 to Acer Travelmate 2490 two errors remain.
1. Atheros wifi adapter.
2. Card reader.

1. Atheros wifi adapter:
You can download Atheros wifi driver for Windows Vista 32 bit from here.
(There are wifi drivers for Atheros, Broadcom and Intel, but I experienced problem only with Atheros.)
Result of installing  looks OK (with setup.exe), but wifi driver wont be installed.

Solution:
In Device manager on wifi card right click.
Then Update Driver...(Choose the map, you extracted drivers before.)
Install driver.

2. Card reader:
Its unnecessary to install driver, because after installing at starting, Windows 8.1 runs to an error:
"ATTEMPTED SWITCH FROM DPC"

Solution:
In Device manager on card reader right click, and click Disable.
It solves the problem, but you wont use card reader of course (an USB card reader is cheap...or you can enabled this device when you need to read an XD or SD memory card - then disable it again).

First option is Upgrade this PC now and second is Create installation media for another PC. If you wanna switch your default Windows to Windows 10 then select first option. But after the switching it, your previous data will be removed. So, think well before you switch.
